Many people see Hawa Mahal from street and often consider it as the  front of the palace . It is actually the back side of the Mahal . Mahal has an entry gate from the City Palace . This Mahal is an extension of the City Palace and is built at an edge of it .

The main reason behind the construction of this  magnificent palace is the Pardah System followed at that time . At that time Rajputs used to follow Pardah System and henceforth , royal women were not allowed to go in public without Pardah . Due to which royal ladies were not allowed to attend the festivities on the street . To solve this issue , Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh built this palace . This palace has 953 windows or Jharokhas from which royal ladies use to attend the street festivals .
The  structure of Wind Mahal was designed by Lal Chand Ustad . The whole of the palace is built from red and pink sandstones . A blend of Mughal and Rajput  style of architecture is  used in the construction of the palace . The   Mahal stands at an elevation of  50 feet and is tilted at an angle of 87 degree . It is believed that the Mahal is constructed in the form of crown of Lord Krishna .  The palace has pyramidal structure with 5 floors . There are small small porthholes inside the palace which consists of famous Jharokhas . The first and second floor has courtyards and the rest of the floors are of  the size of a room . Inspite of having stairs the palace has slopes built inside the palace . The rooms of Mahal are decorated with Belgium glasses , ornamental stones and beautiful chhatris . Every  floor of  the palace  has a temple in it . They are Sharad Mandir , Ratan Mandir , Vichitra Mandir , Prakash Mandir and Hawa Mandir .

The corporate sector , Unit of Trust has decided to preserve this monument and has  adopted the monument  for the same . The building is thus in control of Archeological Department of the Government of Jaipur . Recently , exterior of Hawa Mahal is illuminated , to encourage night tourism . Best time to visit this place is in summer and spring season .
