Amer Fort also known as Amber Fort is a fort located in Amer, Rajasthan, India. The fort is situated at a distance of 11km from the pink city Jaipur . The Amer Fort was initially built by Raja Man Singh I and was later developed and improved by Raja Hai Singh . The magnificent structure is a famous tourist attraction and is one of the most visited place in India .
It was the Meenas who founded the small town Amer . Amer soon became the capital state of Jaipur and Amber Palace , the residence of the Rajput Rulers . It is believed that the Amber fort got its name from the name of Goddess Amba and was built by Raja ManSingh in 1592 AD . Further , the fort was expanded and renovated many times . Finally , the Palace was completed by the Rajput Ruler Jai Singh I .
Amer Fort has a mixed style of architecture . The fort is beautifully built in traditional Hindu , Rajputana and Mughal style of Architecture . The complete fort is cladded with yellow and pink sandstone . The palace adds glitter to the beauty of pink city Jaipur . The palace is carved with marbles and red stones . It further includes ancient paintings and portraits of the Rajput Ruler . The fort is divided into four sections . The entrance of the palace is through the Suraj Pol or Sun Gate . This Sun Gate brings you to the main courtyard . This courtyard is often known as Jaleb Chawk . Jaleb Chawk was used for army to show their war booty .
The upper story of the fort includes the Diwan-e-Aam decorated with the mosaic glassworks and elephants mounted on the columns of pillars . As the name suggests , Diwan-e-Aam is a massive hall used by the public .
Sheesh Mahal of the Amer fort attrracts a lot of tourist . The entry this courtyard is from the Ganesh pole . The Mahal holds mesmerising views all alone . Walls and ceilings of the Mahal inculcates carvings of flowers . Further , even a single source of light in the Sheesh Mahal gives a glittering effect to it .
