Neelkantha Temple is one of the sacred pilgrim spot of Hindus . It is believed that the Neelkantha Temple is constructed at the same place where the "Samudra Manthan" episode of Hindu philosophy took place .
According to Hindu Mythology , Many goddesses , angles and precious valuables appeared while churning the Samudra (Samudra Manthan ) . One of those many things , a lethal poison also emerged out of the Samudra known as Halahala . This dreadful poison was so powerful that it could destroy the complete universe . To save universe , Lord Shiva drank the poison . Due to this poison , Shiva's throat turned blue and from then he is known as Neelkantha which means blue throat . And since this temple is built at the same place where whole incident took place the temple is known as Neelkantha.
Neelkantha Temple is constructed in a dravidian style of architecture . The temple has a very colourful and attractive appearance . Above the entrance gate , lies the sculptures depicting Samudra Manthan which are equally divine and beautiful . The main temple consists of the Shiva linga . The wall of the temple depicts the complete episode of Samudra Manthan . There is Peepal Tree which lies in the Temple premises . People come here , ties dhhage for the fulfilment of their wishes . Temple is most visited at the occasion of Shivratri and in the months of shrawan .
