The Rock Garden of Chandigarh is a sculpture garden Situated near sukhna lake, Chandigarh . It is also known as Nek Chand Saini's Rock Garden named after its founder Nek Chand Saini, a Former Road inspector in Chandigarh. The Garden is well known for its sculptures made from recycled Ceramics. The Garden is famous among the rock enthusiasts and attracts people from all walks of life.
Nek Chand Saini , a former Road inspector of Chandigarh created this park in his spare time . He collected waste materials (bottles , glasses , ceremic pots , tiles ,etc.) from different demolition sites of the city . He then reused these materials and created this beautiful garden. This fascinating Garden is spread over an area of 40 acres (16 ha), and is completely built from industrial, home waste, and discarded items.
The Garden comprises various attraction sites these includes a man made waterfall , majestic coutyards ,doll museum , colourful mosaic of art pieces and sculptures.One of the most featured is a labyrinth of terracotta pots which are decorated by Glasses , bangles ceremics and tube lights.
The Garden also comprises man-made Waterfall , Amphitheatre , pathways . These attracts most of the crowd and often mesmerizes the visitors . Various cultural programs are also held here which further increases the popularity of the rock garden.
The Majestic Coutyards adds glory to the rock garden. These courtyard are full of camels and elephants sculptures which are made of chiseld rocks. The rock garden also comprises of a doll museum. This Museum was inaugurated by UT Administrator V.P. Singh Badnore to mark the second death anniversary of its founder Nek Chand. Theses dolls were made by Nek Chand in the 1970s. These dolls are also made from the raged cloth .
These structures in the Rock Garden enhances the panoramic views of the garden. Also, some of the scenes in the 2021 film Shershaah were filmed in the Rock Garden . This further attracts a lot of tourists and makes the Rock Garden most visited .
