 Dal lake is one of the most popular tourist attraction in Shrinagar, The Summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The beautiful lake is known as "Lake of Flowers". Dal lake is an urban lake and is the second largest in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Lake further impresses its visitors with immense pleasure and alluring views in different seasons.

Dal lake is a misnomer in the valley of Jammu and Kashmir. The Lake is graded as the "Jewel of Jammu and Kashmir" due to its mesmerizing beauty and recreation in Kashmir. According to Hindu Mythology, there was a small village Isbar in the east of Dal lake .This village is believed to be the residence of goddess Durga. 

The Lake is also an important source of commercial operations to the state Jammu and Kashmir. The floating gardens, shikaras, snow-caped mountains in the lake increases the scenic view of the lake and thus, attracts a lots of tourists. 

The shore line of the lake, is about 15.5 kilometres (9.6 mi), is encompassed by a boulevard lined with Mughal era gardens, parks, houseboats and hotels. Dal lake also covers an area of 18 square kilometres (6.9 sq mi) and is part of a natural wetland which covers 21.1 square kilometres (8.1 sq mi), including its floating gardens.

This alluring lake is all surrounded by different gardens, wetlands and magnificent structures dating back to Mughal era. One can enjoy the picturesque view of the lake from the shore line Mughal gardens, such as Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir and from houseboats cruising along the lake in the colourful shikaras. 

All of them offers immense pleasure and alluring environment which attracts people from all walks of life and is one of the most loved tourist attractions in the city.
