JAMA MAZJID was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1571-1572AD and often referred as Friday Mosque . The mosque was built under the supervision of Sufi Saint Sheikh Salim Chisti and is considered as the first building constructed in the complex . Jama Mazjid was declared a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE in 1986 .
Jama Mazjid amalgamates all the finest elements of Iranian architecture . The mosque is a rectangular structure and is decorated with glazed tiles , carvings , stones and paintings . This Mazjid comprises of a single dome , two halls at each side and two chambers crowned with domes . It has three entrance gates at the North , at the South lies the Buland Darwaza and at the East lies Badshahi Darwaza . The mosque also comprises of large courtyards .
