 Jaisalmer fort is also known as Sone ka Quila or The Golden Fort. This living fort is situated in Jaisalmer of Rajasthan,India. The fort is considered to be the oldest fort and is famous for showcasing its beauty and elegance to its every visitor.

The Jaisalmer fort is considered as one of the largest and oldest fort built by Rajput Rawal Jaisal. The famous palace resembles to the one mentioned in Arabian nights. The Fort is considered as one of the few living monuments in the world and is home to a fourth of the city's population. Jaisalmer fort is popularly known as the "Sonar Kila" because it is made of yellow sandstone. Its extensive yellow sandstone walls are bright yellow in the morning and turns into honey-gold when the sun sets. The fort mesmerizes it's visitors from its golden views in the early morning when the first rays of the sun reach the ground.

The Fort stands amidst the sandy expanse of the great Thar Desert on Trikuta Hill. It is today located along the southern edge of the city Jaisalmer. The Jaisalmer fort is the second oldest fort and was built by Rajput Rawal Jaisal. The name of the fort has also been derived from the Rajput Jaisal. According to the legends, The fort was first built at Lodhariya. Since king Jaisal was not satisfied from it, So, he recreated the fort while establishing the city Jaisalmer. 

Jaisalmer ka Quila is also famous for its breathtaking architecture. This fort is a 250 foot tall fort and is protected by 30 feet long walls. The fort also constitutes 99 bastions, amongst these 92 were built between 1633 and 1647. The fort is a perfect blend of Islamic and Rajput architecture.

There are four grand entrance gateways to reach this fort which are Ganesh Pol, Akshya Pol, Suraj Pol and Hawa Pol. Every entrance gate has its own significance . For instance, The first sunray falls on the entrance gateway and is known as Suraj Pol. The complete fort is laced with carvings and houses museum, shops, restaurants, residential accommodations, hotels, etc. 

Jaisalmer fort is graded as the strength of The Thar desert and is a symbol of Power and Pride to the Rajasthan. Jaisalmer fort is thus declared as an UNESCO World Heritage site. One can enjoy the true magnificence, culture and tradition of Rajasthan.
