 Red Fort also known as Lal Quila is the Mughal fort. This famous fort was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in mid 17th century in the capital Delhi. Red Fort is considered to be one of the best example of Mughal architecture showcasing its beauty and elegance to its every visitor.

The Red fort was initially built to contain the older Salimgarh Fort. It remained the seat of Imperial Mughal Rule till 1857 when the Great Revolt took place. The fort started demolishing during the rule of mughla emperor Aurangzeb. The Fort was then captured, looted and attacked many times between 1739 and 1857 by Ahmad Shah, Marathas, Sikhs and the British to raise funds for the defence of armies from Ahmad shah Durrani, Marathas sold-out the silver ceiling of Diwan-e-Khas in 1760. The Fort was the seat of Mughals for two hundred years, but after the revolt of 1857, the last Mughal emperor, Bahadur shah II was exiled to Rangoon. He was the last Mughal resident of the Fort and the symbol of 1857 rebellion against British during which Shahjahanbad residents participated. This marked the end of the Mughals.

The Red fort is considered as one of the largest and most beautiful fort built under the rule of Mughals. The fort is believed to be built by the same architect who built Taj Mahal i.e Ustad Ahmad Lahori. Red fort is popularly known as the "Lal Kila" because it is made of red sandstone. The fort comprises of several beutiful structures. The massive red sandstone walls encloses a complex of palaces and entertainment halls, projecting balconies, baths and indoor canals, and geometrical gardens, as well as an ornate mosque. Among the most famous structures of the complex are the Hall of Public Audience (Diwan-i 'Am), which has 60 red sandstone pillars supporting a flat roof, and the Hall of Private Audience (Diwan i-Khas). The fort is a perfect blend of Islamic ,Persian and Hindu architecture. The structure of the fort is octagonal, and it has several gates, the prominent ones being Lahori, Ajmeri, Kashmiri, Mori, Turkman and Delhi gates. Among them the Lahori Gate is one of the most emotional and symbolic focal point of modern India. It is this gate where the proud of India ,The Indian Flag could be seen waving proudly.

Red fort is graded as the strength and symbol of Power and Pride of the India. Red fort is thus declared as an UNESCO World Heritage site.
